Glad to hear your enjoying the job crumpet and do keep us informed. I would like to know the pros and cons of the job and whats your average workload and finish times now that you've been signed off? What is the latest time you have finished your day?
Regarding recruitment i emailed sky the other day and was surprised to get an instant reply from a human being however the reply was a standard not recruiting at present and to keep looking in on the vacancies site for any future recruitment. Oh well here is hoping that they may do a intake sometime this year maybe the launch of 3D at the end of year will encourage extra sales of HD workload. That is if 3D TV sales takes off that is! Regards..
Hi Lee, pros n cons mate.. theres loads of pros i.e Free sky,Good pay, Use of van, job satisfaction, Appreciation off customers (earnt a few tips lol) being part of a good team who are happy to help if u need it, Days go quick, Not getting any off hassle of anyone,
Bad - Having to cancel a job, (Now i earn bonus i realise the impact this can have on my bonus), Over night cancelations. Bonus-not earnt anyteam bonus for 2 months, Luckily my personnel rft is good. Also nothing worse than getting soaked when it decides to rain, Dirty houses (put your bags on when u leave lol)
In terms of job load im on the 8hr rota with fixed Wed/Thurs off but i like this it works well with my family life, im usually issued between 4 & 7 jobs per day. My average finish time is bout 2-3ish. I think the latest i finished was bout 7ish but that was just before xmas n my jobs was all mixed up on mft so had to call rst on every job with a 35 min queue wait.
I have found this job swings in round abouts but it is definalty as hard as you make it. I've learnt to just try and keep it simple and not over complicate things, also dont race the clock, just take your time and move on. H & S can be annoyin sometimes but just get on with it (not worth losing job over).
I'm definatly loving the job more everyday im only 26 so feel im in a good job at the right time. I know people arent happy with this new bonus system but not having experienced that change it doesnt concern me so much, but hey the next change surely will.
Hope you get in mate because its a quality job. Just keep trying.

Thanks for the reply above crumpet and sorry for all the nosey questions but thats a great help to know what the job really is about. I am hoping to apply again if there is another intake as first time i failed the telephone interview lol. I am 36 getting old now and have only done factory production and warehousing type of jobs since leaving school and feel the lack of dealing with any sort of customer experience was what let me down on the interview. If you dont mind me asking what was your previous job and have you had any sort of simular experience before. Anyway thanks for the feedback and advice and good luck. I know this would be the right job for me its just confusing having to sit and wait for another recruitment drive. I dont really want to go down the subcon route such as AVC as i have heard bad things.
To my benefit i have had plenty of customer face to face experience as i used to be a kitchen fitter/plumber, Also when i was younger i was a chef so had a lot of dealings with the public i beleive this helped me. When sky rang to confirm my telephone interview for next day (they told me what questions they would ask) I went and typed up all my answers so when they rang i told the lady i typed out my answers and she was pleased it showed good planning and organisation skills, (just a tip).
During recent Team meeting we was told that subbies are pratically becoming sky engineers. I.e Van wraps, and sky uniform. also recieve all training and info we do. so it might be an option for you to actually try that. End of the day subbies dont have the best rep but there's plenty of good ones out there. make yourself a good one you will be ok.
As for recruitment i've heard sky will be recruiting soon but not sure when or if this is even true as its only word of mouth. Just keep checking site and hopefully something will come up. I got my job and the postcode area wasnt advertised on site so you never know. Good luck (again)
Quick update on recruitment for Lee..... was at a team meeting on Friday ad our TM informed us that although Sky are recruiting atm they are just replacing those engineers who either didnt make the cut or those who decided to jack in.
Just to add to the questions Crumpet answered....
Finish times... anywhere between 3pm and 6pm... depends on workload, travel times and nightmare jobs.
Pros.... free Sky, van useage, wages and practically being your own boss... oh yeah and the "Park" function coming back to the MFT.
Cons... Overnight cancels, awkward customers, miss-selling/miss bookings..... oh and the snow over winter LoL.
Still loving the job and as far as getting on with Sky my TM just said to tell ppl to keep checking on work for sky.com.
As has been said before, with the big push for HD and 3D TV coming later this year there should hopefully be a few new jobs coming up.
I wouldnt worry too much about not dealing with customers face to face either mate... majority of my jobs have been factory work (fabricator/welder, machine work such as lathes and millers) I didnt so much have face to face experience with customers but consider myself to have good "people skills" as I used to be a team leader/charge hand where I worked. I have dealt with a few customers at previous jobs but the main thing is to concentrate on your strengths, especially during those one to one chats. That said, I think they accepted me just to get me out of the room... as my TM says I could talk a glass eye to sleep and sell sand to the Arabs LoL.
Thanks pagey and everyone else for the info and advice. Just got a email from Talent resourcing advising me to update my profile and CV so that sounds promising that there may be recruitment in the near future ?. Hope so because my current job is driving me up the wall. Anyway all the best people and hope your all enjoying working in this lovely warm weather we are having..
